Is Vaping Safe? Let's Look at the Facts
If you are thinking about giving up smoking, then you may have considered purchasing an e-cig starter kit or disposable vape instead. Quitting the bad habit of smoking is an amazing, albeit difficult thing to do, and vaping can make the process easier.
Many smokers who are looking to quit have a lot of questions, and one of the most asked questions we get is ‘is vaping safe?’. In short, the answer is yes! Vaping is significantly safer than smoking. Approximately one-third of deaths from heart disease are caused by first-hand or second-hand smoking!
We have put together this fact file to tell you about the safety factors of vaping. If you still have questions about the safety of vaping, then feel free to get in touch with us and we will answer your questions.
Vaping is Less Harmful than Smoking
Vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking. Let’s dive into the facts…
Public Health England has suggested that vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking. The organisation drew this conclusion from a team of researchers and academics from King's College London and The London School of Medicine. The pivotal findings of this research are:
[Taken Directly from Public Health England Research]
- The current best estimate is that e-cigarettes are around 95% less harmful than smoking.
- Nearly half the population (44.8%) don’t realise e-cigarettes are much less harmful than smoking.
- There is no evidence so far that e-cigarettes are acting as a route into smoking for children or non-smokers.
E-liquids do not include the same toxic chemicals that cigarettes have in them. By vaping, you are eliminating the intake of tar, carbon monoxide, lead and other toxins that can cause terminal illnesses.
If you believe you will miss the flavours of cigarettes, but you want to make an important lifestyle change, then you should check out tobacco flavoured e-liquids. These flavours will help ease the change and provide you with the same rich tobacco flavouring as your favourite brand of cigarettes.
Strict UK Government Regulations
The UK government has strict rules and regulations under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, that e-liquid companies have to follow in order to get their vape juices approved and to be able to sell them. So, you all of the e-liquids that you purchase from Juicemate, and other UK vape companies, have been proven to be safe by the UK government
Here are the key regulations that vape manufacturers have to follow:
- E-cigarette tanks can not exceed 2 ml
- E-liquids cannot contain more than 20 mg/ml of nicotine
- Ingredients such as colouring, caffeine and taurine are banned
The Truth About Nicotine
Nicotine is an addictive substance that is contained in e-liquids, although you can purchase nicotine-free vape juices from Juicemate. Whilst addictive, this chemical is “relatively harmless”. However, if you have heart conditions, then nicotine can cause problems and escalate your condition. If this is the case, you should speak to your doctor before you start vaping.
Vaping can be equally as addictive as smoking cigarettes due to its nicotine content. There are different levels of nicotine you can get in e-liquids, so you should try and aim for the lowest one that you can and slowly reduce the amount of nicotine over time.
Passive Vaping
Research has suggested that passive vaping is not harmful. So, when you vape around other people, their health will not be harmed in the process. Therefore, vaping is safer for those around you, as passive smoking can be as harmful as first-hand smoking, especially for children.
Passive smoking can cause many health problems for children over time, and they may develop conditions such as asthma or short-term health conditions like chest and ear infections.
Long Term Effects of Vaping
Vaping is a relatively new phenomenon, and it has only become ‘mainstream’ in the last few years. Therefore, it is difficult to know the long term effects of vaping as there is not enough data, evidence or studies to show the effects.
However, it is very likely that vaping is significantly better for your health than smoking. Cigarettes contain over 5000 chemicals, whereas e-liquids contain just a fraction of this, and exclude some of the most harmful chemicals such as tar, carbon monoxide and ammonia.
