How to ghost vape in 6 easy steps

Have you been trying to perfect the trick of ghost inhaling, but you just can’t seem to get it down?

We’ve all been there. Vape tricks are harder than they look, but with a little practice and guidance from us, you’ll have it in the bag by the end of the blog.

This is one of the cleanest, easiest vape tricks to learn, so you don’t need a mega cloud-chasing setup to do it. If you want to learn how to do it in just a few simple steps, keep reading.

What is ghost vaping?

'The ghost vape' is the name for the trick where someone exhales a vapour cloud, lets it hover in the air for a few seconds, then pulls it straight back in with a quick inhale.

The reason behind the name? The cloud is there, and then it’s gone in the blink of an eye. Just like a ghost.

Besides looking really impressive, it’s actually one of the best tricks to learn as a beginner, since you don’t need advanced ring technique. Plus, it helps you build all of the skills you need for more advanced tricks: mouth control, timing, and airflow management.

It can be broken down into these three key moments:

  • The “drop”: a small ball or puff of vapour slips out of your mouth.
  • The “float”: it sits in front of your lips for a beat.
  • The “snap back”: you inhale sharply, and it shoots back in.

The reason most beginners struggle is that they push the cloud out too hard; it’s all about letting the vapour naturally drift out rather than forcing it.

What you need to successfully ghost vape

Luckily, you don’t need much to learn how to ghost vape. Just make sure you have the following, and you’re good to go.

  • Still air: Choose a room with no fans, open windows, or air conditioning that could intercept the natural movement of the vapour.
  • A smooth draw: While you can use most vape devices to ghost vape, we suggest one with a Mouth-to-lung (MTL) or a restricted draw, as it gives you better control for the trick.
  • A bright, visible environment: You want enough natural lighting to be able to see the cloud in front of you. Standing in front of a plain wall also helps with spotting the shape and size of the cloud, so you know what to adjust.
  • Comfortable nicotine strength: Since you’ll be practising for a bit, you want a vape that isn’t too strong and won’t make you feel dizzy after a few goes. Start on a low nicotine strength and take breaks between so you don’t overdo it.

Once you’ve got all of these things in place, you can move on to the next steps.

But wait before you go! If you’re using an old, beaten-up vape or you don’t have the right MTL draw, take a look at our new vapes at Juicemate. We have a variety of stylish, compact vapes that are easy to use and perfect for beginners to try out some tricks.

Follow these 6 easy steps to ghost vaping

1. Take a mouth hit (don’t inhale it to your lungs yet)

Start by inhaling the vape gently into your mouth, letting the vapour sit on your tongue to form a thick cloud.

2. Hold it for 2–3 seconds

Let it sit behind your lips for a few seconds, resisting the urge to inhale it into your lungs.

If you hold it for too long, it’ll thin out, so aim to release it after three seconds. During this time, the vapour will warm and settle, producing a more compact puff when you exhale.

It’s best to start small, because bigger clouds are harder to control.

3. Shape your mouth and release

Once you’re ready to let it go, form your mouth into a slight ‘O’ shape by relaxing your lips and creating a small opening.

Keep it subtle to help the vapour leave as a small puff rather than a wide cloud.

4. Let the vapour fall out in a ball-shaped cloud

Open your mouth slightly and let the vapour drift out on its own. You can use your tongue to help urge it out by slowly moving it toward your teeth; just make sure not to forcefully exhale it out!

If you exhale too hard, you’ll create a big cloud that disperses instantly. If it feels almost effortless and the vapour gently slips out, then you know you’re doing it right.

5. Control the distance and density by using your tongue

You can make the ghost travel further by pushing it out harder with your tongue.

If you push it out more slowly, the denser the ball will be. Learn how to control your tongue, and you’ll gain more control over the outcome.

6. Inhale sharply to pull it back in

Before the ball floats too far away, sharply inhale it back into your mouth to ‘suck’ the puff back in.

That quick inhale creates airflow that pulls the vapour back towards you, making it seem to disappear. If the vapour never really leaves your mouth, then you inhaled it back too quickly.

After it’s pulled back in, you can breathe back out normally through your nose or mouth.
